Hi.
Just wanted to tell we've been busy improving XPilot NG.
The SDL/OpenGL client seems pretty stable and usable now. New features
include Baron's nice looking 3D asteroids and Mara's excellent config
menu (currently one needs to press mouse button 2 to see it).

The version number of xpilot ng is now independent of that of
xpilot.org's xpilot implementation. Instead of choosing a low version
number like 0.8, the number 4.6.0 was chosen. One reason for this is that
in FreeBSD there is already the port (or whatever it is called)
xpilot-ng-4.5.4X2 and it would be odd if the version number decreased.

There has been changes made so that xpilot ng should not collide
with xpilot.org's xpilot4 or xpilot5 if both are installed at the same
time. Beginning at xpilot ng version 4.6.0 xpilot ng binaries are named
xpilot-ng-x11 (previously xpilot), xpilot-ng-sdl (was xpilot_sdl),
xpilot-ng-server (was xpilots), xpilot-ng-replay (was xp-replay). Data is
put in share/xpilot-ng/ directory instead of lib/xpilot.

Note that today I changed ng version in xpilot.sf.net cvs to
4.6.1. This version contains code that automatically makes a block
approximation of polygon (xp2) map if no mapdata option is in the map
file. The conversion could be improved a lot though. The conversion
allowed removing the block mapdata from the polybloods.xp2 file. The
version of the polybloods map is now 8.1.

PS. We are soon hoping to release a stable version of ng. Code and
binaries will be available on xpilot.sf.net download area. There will be
binaries for Linux/i386 (X11/SDL), Windows (MFC/SDL) and Mac OS X
(SDL).
