Something strange happened to the gmail format. It was supposed to
end with the output of 't':

On Debian 7:

$ bash --version
GNU bash, version 4.2.37(1)-release (i486-pc-linux-gnu)
Copyright (C) 2011 Free Software Foundation, Inc.
License GPLv3+: GNU GPL version 3 or later <http://gnu.org/licenses/gpl.html
>

$ export mailuser=testuser
$ echo $mailuser | grep -Eo '^[a-z]{1}'
t

(whereas Redhat 5.9 output 9 lines of each of the letters)
