Ugh.  You don't have to resort to that.  Use pinfo.

Description: An alternative info-file viewer
 pinfo is an viewer for Info documents, which is based on ncurses.
 The key-commands are in the style of lynx.

It is in Debian (and therefore probably Ubuntu too).  If it's not in
your distro of choice, see:
