If 80GB was the advertised capacity of the drive, 22.4 GB is probably an
overestimate.
What does "df -k" give?

Many drive manufacturers use "little g" Giga's -- 1gB=1000*1000*1000 bytes,
although you
think it should be 1GB=1024*1024*1024.

There is more overhead when a filesystem is created, and some vendors (Dell)
use a
"hidden" partition with diagnostics and or restore data.  My 160gB disk
gives:

# fdisk -l /dev/sdb

Disk /dev/sdb: 160.0 GB, 160041885696 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 19457 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes
Disk identifier: 0x0004f0ee

/dev/sdb2              14       19457   156183930   8e  Linux LVM

$ df /Data
Filesystem           1K-blocks      Used Available Use% Mounted on

                        149280940  44416316  97159232  32% /Data

so over 156 million 1-K blocks in the partition ends up as less than 150
million
blocks of formatted space.
