I have an update:

I thought I will try powering up the system before going for any
fiddling with the
hardware one more time. Its been up for almost an hour now without any
problems.
I took this time to set up my Gkrellm to report all temps and fan speed.

uptime at the time of writing this message:
19:04:12 up 48 min, 1 user, load average: 0.25, 0.12, 0.09
18:54:59 up 39 min, 1 user, load average: 0.25, 0.14, 0.11
18:43:02 up 27 min, 1 user, load average: 0.32, 0.13, 0.15
18:27:07 up 11 min, 1 user, load average: 0.58, 0.37, 0.31

Gkrellm values:
CPU Temp during X session: 25C
CPU Fan speed: 1070rpm
MOBO Temp during X session: 29C
All Voltages are in close to specifications.

dmesg output: http://www.pastebin.ca/900574

/var/log/messages output: http://www.pastebin.ca/900576

I do not know what to make of this. I was also able to mount my USB
key and copy
files without any problems. Plugging in USB key did not trigger a
shutdown this time.

Any ideas? Thanks.

Vikram
