There was a question about low power systems.
If you need a low power motherboard that has pretty good performance look
at the Intel D945GCLF. It has a 1.6 GHz Atom processor. Supports a
single DIMM of max 2GB. Has 2 SATA interfaces and 1 IDE. No Floppy.
Has PS/2 ports and parallel port. 4 USB ports on back and an internal
connector for 2 more. On board Realtek 1 Gb NIC. Processor is mounted
directly to board. Only fan on board is on the chipset. Runs at 533 FSB.
Only has 1 PCI slot.
We recently installed Centos 5.2 and compiled the Realtek driver. Works
like a bandit. Even ran Asterisk on it just fine.
Now with this motherboard reatailing for around $90, and 2 GB ram around
$50, and an 80 GB SATA for around $60, you can make an inexpensive good
performing unit. The m/b fits in and mounts to the micro ATX mounting
holes just fine in an existing case.
So this can be your router with a 2nd network card and a pretty good
server at the same time.
