[nSLUG] Active Directory integration + laptop

I'm working in a mixed windows/linux environment and have been trying to
help out with getting the linux boxen on the domain. This keeps our
mostly-M$ administrator happy and reduces the resistance to linux
desktops in the network.

For LAN-connected desktops this works reasonably well using either a
kerb+ldap solution or a kerb+winbind solution. However, for laptop
users things get complicated because when they shutdown and go home they
can't reach the KDC. The only way I've been able to solve this is to
duplicate the usernames and passwords into /etc/passwd; naturally, this
solution offends me :)

Has anyone else wrestled with this and possibly found a non-commercial
solution?
