This series of commands are not necessary. There is usually no need to
upgrade to the lastest Stable before upgrading to Testing. The
procedure is simple:

0) Read the release notes for special instructions for
   upgradeing. Otherwise:

1) modify apt/sources.list to include testing or unstable.

2) # apt-get update

3) # apt-get dist-upgrade

The -t argument is no required. Debian will use the lastest version of
the packages unless instructed otherwise.

That said see my other post on why running Debian/Testing is not a
good idea.
