find where you mozilla is installed
this is on my system

/usr/lib/mozilla/plugins

libjavaplugin_oji.so  ->
      /usr/lib/java/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so


I did a quick search, its possible under Ubuntu to be in
  /usr/lib/mozilla
  /usr/lib/mozilla-firefox

see if java is installed here
JRE JAVA_HOME=/usr/lib/jvm/java-1.5.0-sun/jre

if so, the plugin will be under the jre dir, 
/usr/lib/jvm/java-1.5.0-sun/jre/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so
