I don't think this is a fair analogy.  Version numbers do not
accurately reflect usefulness or reliabililty.  A lot of projects set
feature milestones for version 1.0, this does not mean in anyway that
any version of that software < 1.0 is some how 'shaky' and should be
driven slowly.
